Peskov not considering it possible to answer question about possible Russian strikes against terrorists in Iraq in case of Baghdad's request

MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has dodged a question whether Russia would carry out strikes against terrorist positions in Iraq in the event of Baghdad's request, and called the question "hypothetical."

"Hypothetical wordings are inappropriate here, it is not possible to speak in the subjunctive," he told reporters.

Also, Peskov denied the allegations that any representatives of the Russian foreign ministry had earlier admitted possibility of any anti-terrorist airstrikes in Iraq. "No, nobody has made statements about such possibility. From the very start, we were telling that it was about Syria," he said.

Peskov has reiterated that the Russian troops in Syria are acting on request of the country's legitimate government.
