Almost 4.5% of voters cast early vote in Belarusian presidential elections - Central Election Commission

MINSK. Oct 7 (Interfax) - A total of 4.49% of voters came to polling stations on the first day of early voting in the Belarusian presidential elections which began on Tuesday, a report posted on the Central Election Commission website says.

Specifically, 5.04% of the voters voted in the Brest region, 5.11% voted in the Vitebsk region, 4.03% voted in the Gomel region, 3.84% voted in the Grodno region, 4.61% voted in the Minsk region and 4.04% voted in the Mogilyov region on October 6. A total of 4.62% of the voters voted in Minsk on the first day of the voting, the Central Election Commission has reported.

A total of 6,129 polling stations have been created on the territory of the country. There are 6.9 million voters on the lists of voters.

The early voting will last until October 10. The presidential elections are scheduled to be held in Belarus on October 11, 2015.

The presidential candidates are incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, Tatyana Korotkevich (activist of the campaign Say the Truth!), Nikolai Ulakhovich, supreme hetman of the organization Belarusian Cossacks, and Sergei Gaidukevich, chairman of the Belarusian Liberal Democratic Party.
