MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The warships of the Caspian Flotilla have fired 26 'Kalibr' sea-based cruise missiles on the terrorists in Syria, Chief of the Main Operational Department of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff Gen. Col. Andrei Kartapolov said.
"The Caspian Flotilla ships launched twenty-six 'Kalibr' sea-based cruise missiles on locations of the ISIL and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groups from the deployment area in the south-western Caspian Sea," Kartapolov said.
Kartapolov recalled: "We have announced already our plans to intensify striking on sites of the ISIL and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groups."
"On October 5-6, our intelligence exposed a number of sites of the militants in Syria that are subject to immediate destruction," he said.
"In order to destroy them, we opted to use long-range cruise missiles," Kartapolov said.
"The strikes with cruise missiles had been agreed upon with our partners in advance," he said.
