Russian imports from non-CIS fall 32% in Sept, down 38% in 9M - FCS

MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax) - Russia's visible imports from outside the CIS fell 38.2% in January-September year-on-year to $118.457 billion, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said on Friday citing preliminary data.

In September 2015, the value of imports from non-CIS countries amounted to $14.407 billion, down 32.3% compared with September 2014.

Imports declined 38.1% in September 2015 year-on-year for textile goods and footwear (to $0.922 billion), and were down 31.5% for machinery and equipment ($6.976 billion), down 29.3% for chemical industry products ($2.743 billion) and down 29.2% for food goods ($1.795 billion).

Imports of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages fell 50%, sugar - down 38.7%, fish - down 35.1%, meat and byproducts - down 34.7%, fruit - down 32.8%, vegetables - down 24.4%, dairy products - down 23.2%, vegetable oil - down 12.5%, cereals - down 9.9%, and tobacco - down 7.7%.

Among chemical goods, imports of soap and detergents fell 35.5%, pharmaceutical products - down 34.2%, polymers and rubbers - down 32.2% and perfumery and cosmetics - down 28.7%.

For textile goods and footwear, imports declined 50% for knit fabric, 40.8% for footwear, 39.0% for textile clothing, 37.8% for chemical fiber, 37.4% for finished textile products, 36.6% for knitted garments, 31.1% for synthetic thread, 21.6% for textile material and 13.2% for cotton.

Imports of machine-building products also fell, by 85% for rail locomotive parts and equipment, 50% for overland transport, 38.7% for electrical equipment, 37.1% for optical instruments and tools, 30.8% for aircraft and aircraft parts and 22.2% for mechanical equipment. However, imports of ships and other vessels rose 12-fold.
