Knauf begins construction of plant in Samara region for 1.2 bln rubles

SAMARA. Oct 14 (Interfax) - Knauf Group began the construction of a plant for the production of dry building mixes in the city of Chapayevsk in the Samara region.

The investments in the project are 1.2 billion rubles.

"In the region there is a raw materials base, which is important for Knauf. With account of the fact that today in the region there is quite a large amount of construction, modern producers of construction materials are needed, we understand that it is much more advantageous to localize production here, than to transport [materials] from other regions and engage in, in particular, international logistics," Samara's Regional Economic Development Minister Alexander Kobenko said at the brick-laying ceremony on Tuesday.

It is planned to commission the enterprise at the end of 2016.

"It is planned for the plant to reach full capacity in two and a half years. In this regime it is planned to produce about 240,000 tonnes of gypsum binder and 130,000 tonnes of building mixes. If in value equivalent this is about 25 million euro, and at the current exchange rate it is 1.8 billion rubles [a year]," Kobenko said.

The memorandum on the construction of the enterprise was signed in the summer of 2014. The 17-hectare area for the construction of the plant is under municipal ownership and is being leased by the company for 49 years. The plant will be Knauf's 15th production enterprise in Russia.

Knauf is one of the world's largest producers of construction materials, it owns more than 120 plants in more than 40 countries. The concern began to operate in Russia in 1993.
