Number of Russian internet users obtaining content legally rises 350% in 3 yrs - Volin
MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - The number of Russian internet users who pay to acquire copyrighted content legally will rise in three years from the current 18 million people to 30 million people, Deputy Media and Mass Communications Minister Alexei Volin said.
"We conduct market research together with the internet industry. We keep a tally of those people that legally acquire, pay money for content on the internet," Volin said on Thursday at the Federation Assembly's Legislative Council.
"Our goal is to raise that figure to 30 million by 2018 and we hope to attain that figure," he said.
In the past three years, beginning with 2012, the number of such users has risen to 18 million people from 4 million. "This is a good result. We don't plan to stop at that," Volin said.
At the same time, he said, the ministry understands that the situation in this area depends to a large extent on the economic situation in the country.
