Russian military not fighting within Syrian army - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax-AVN) - No Russian officers are fighting within the Syrian army, Russian Armed Forces General Staff Deputy Chief Andrei Kartapolov has said.

"No, they are not. Our group is acting on its own," Kartapolov said in an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper on Friday.

A small group of officers from the Syrian Armed Forces is working at the Russian headquarters in Syria to ensure coordination with Syrian Air Force missions and provide accurate information about the location of the forward edge of Syria's governmental forces.
