Uncontrolled section of Ukrainian-Russian border won't prevent Ukraine from getting visa-free travel with EU - foreign minister

KYIV. Oct 20 (Interfax) - The fact that Ukraine has not yet completed the demarcation of its borders with neighboring countries will not influence the introduction of visa-free travel with European Union countries, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said.

"The demarcation is not a problem in the way towards visa-free travel. We have clear assurances from the EU that our efforts - and we have a clear strategy - are supported," Klimkin said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Demarcation procedures are currently under way at some Ukrainian-Russian and Ukrainian-Belarusian border sections, he said.

The existence of a Ukrainian-Russian border section not controlled by Kyiv will not prevent visa-free travel agreements with the EU, either, he said.

"No, it doesn't prevent this. This is a clear political position," Klimkin said in reply to questions from journalists.
