Moscow expects sailors detained in Libya to return home soon
MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Moscow expects that the crew of the oil tanker Mekhanik Chebotarev seized near the Libyan coast on September 16 will return home in the near future.
"We expect that, based on the assurances that we received from Tripoli, all the Russian sailors still remaining in Libyan territory will be able to return home in the near future," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
The Foreign Ministry also thanked the Libyan authorities for liberating two crewmembers.
Moscow is interested in "the establishment of a stable democratic state resting on firm governance institutions, a capable army and law enforcement agencies in a traditionally friendly Libya," the Foreign Ministry said.
"Moscow will support decisions developed and agreed upon by the Libyans themselves regarding Libya's future as a unified, sovereign and territorially integrated country," it said.
