Red Cross offers aid in captive swap to conflicting parties in south-eastern Ukraine

MOSCOW. Oct 28 (Interfax) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) expects a reply to the proposal to provide assistance in the process of swapping captives between the conflicting parties in south-eastern Ukraine, ICRC's Director of Operations Dominic Stillhart said.

ICRC experts will participate as advisers in the working subgroup on humanitarian issues of the Trilateral Contact Group, which works on the issues of a captive exchange, Stillhart said.

"We offered our services to facilitate the process of swapping captives by both sides and we expect a reply from all the participants in the talks," he said.

On Tuesday, OSCE special envoy Martin Sajdik told reporters that the conflicting parties in eastern Ukraine agreed at a meeting of the Contact Group in Minsk on a captive swap in the format of 11 people from Ukraine and nine from some districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
