CIS premiers to meet in Kyrgyzstan on May 27, 2016
DUSHANBE. Oct 30 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan will host the next session of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on May 27, 2016.
"Kyrgyzstan will take over the [CIS] chairmanship in 2016. Our Kyrgyz colleagues have invited us to hold the council's spring session in their home country on May 27 next year," Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in the Tajik capital Dushanbe on Friday.
"We are accepting this invitation with gratitude," he added.
The CIS will mark its 25th anniversary in 2016, Medvedev said.
"Serious changes have occurred in each of our countries and the world as a whole over the past 25 years. It is important that we have passed through this historical period together with the Commonwealth," the Russian premier said.
The upcoming anniversary will offer an opportunity to take a fresh look at all achievements and "think of new ways to effectively use the potential of the Commonwealth in today's political and economic conditions," he said.
"I hope that events expected to take place on the occasion of the CIS's 25th anniversary will be aimed at tackling this task," he added.
