UN deputy secretary general O'Brien arrives in Donbas to assess humanitarian situation, sees devastation

TSENTRALNE, Donetsk region. Nov 3 (Interfax) - United Nations Under-Secretary-General Stephen O'Brien is visiting the breakaway parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions to assess the humanitarian situation and find out people's needs.

He told journalists that, in his view, while there is devastation there, the purpose of his visit is to focus on people's needs.

He said he is not planning to stay in Donbas for long.

He also said that today he has an opportunity to assess the humanitarian situation as far as will be possible.

A source in the government of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic told Interfax earlier that on November 3 O'Brien will visit Donetsk, the city of Debaltseve and the village of Tsentralne.
