Single information web source could be created for Russians living abroad - Matviyenko

MOSCOW. Nov 5 (Interfax) - Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, proposed to create a news website designed specially for Russians living abroad.

"I believe that we should think about creating a single internet site to provide Russian speaking mass media with timely and, most importantly, true information about Russian domestic and foreign policy. I believe that it is extremely important under the circumstances of the information war that is being conducted against our country," Matviyenko said when speaking in Moscow at the 5th World Congress of Russian Compatriots living abroad on Thursday.

Any isolation of Russia is currently out of the question, according to Matviyenko. The West is now consolidating "an understanding that it's no good to speak to Russia using the language of force and coercion," she said.

"This is evidenced by our parliamentary contacts, and in particular, the recent participation of our delegation from the Federation Council in the 133th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva. Many initiatives of our country gained official support in the course of the work within this oldest and most reputed inter-parliamentary organization that brings together the parliaments of more than 160 countries," Matviyenko said.
