Former Ukrainian Justice Minister Lukash remains in custody - lawyer

KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax) - Former Ukrainian Justice Minister Olena Lukash remained in custody on Monday morning despite bail having been paid, lawyer Yuriy Ivashchenko told Interfax.

"She is still in custody," the lawyer said, adding that the defense team was doing its best to free Lukash but that red tape was stalling her release.

Ivashchenko said that Lukash might be released before noon.

The Ukrainian Security Service detained the former justice minister of the Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych Cabinet on November 5. Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office prosecutor Vladyslav Kutsenko said at a press briefing that they had gathered information that might prove Lukash's involvement in major embezzlement and fraud.

The Kyiv Pechersky District Court ordered on November 6 that the former minister be taken into custody and set bail at 5,115,600 hryvni. Ukrainian parliament member Vadym Novynskyi from the Opposition Bloc faction paid the bail on the same day.
