'Assad problem' should become subject for discussion - Syrian opposition

MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax) - Representatives of the Syrian opposition remain divided over the possibility of the country's incumbent President Bashar al-Assad running in early elections in Syria.

"Al-Assad cannot be nominated as a candidate. He cannot lead the Syrian people after what happened in Syria," a member of the Executive Committee of Syria's National Coordination Committee, Mohammed Hijazi, has said.

For his part, a member of the Front for Change and Liberation leadership, Qadri Jamil, noted that the Syrian opposition remains split over the matter.

"The Geneva declaration says nothing about al-Assad. This problem should be addressed within the framework of discussions without any preliminary conditions," he said.
