Estonia takes preventive security measures after Paris attacks - PM Roivas
TALLINN. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Estonia has not heightened its security threat level but terror attacks in Paris have prompted it to take preventive measures, Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas has said.
Summing up the results of a Cabinet meeting on Monday, he said measures are being put in place across the country to increase safety and the feeling of security among the public, a government spokesperson told Interfax. For example, police clarified which characteristics are used to check people on the border and on transport. Police have also increased presence at sea ports and at airports.
"The terror attacks in Paris are aimed not only against France but the entire democratic world and the space of its values, which fights against terror and brutal crime," the prime minister said.
At the same time he also described as "unacceptable to exploit the tragic events for spreading anti-refugee sentiments and likening terrorists to people fleeing armed conflicts.
"War refugees are fleeing this terror and brutality. We must not shut our doors in front of people who need help. But at the same time, we must improve migrant identification and registration in Europe and Estonia," the prime minister said.
