No consensus reached at Vienna meeting on Assad's non-involvement in political process in Syria - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has denied Turkey's statement that the participants in a recent multilateral meeting on Syria in Vienna had reached a consensus on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's non-involvement in a political process in Syria.

"No agreements were reached that President Assad would not be involved in this or that stage of a political process," Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow in reply to a question from Interfax.

"It's true that some countries, including our Turkish partners, put forward such ideas, but they were not given consensus-based support," he said.

"It's absolutely incorrect to say that someone agreed not to take part in something," he said.

"Everything that the parties agreed on has been put on paper and is not subject to any interpretations," Lavrov said.
