Parliamentarians demand reliable barrier to extremism on Russian borders

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Russian parliamentarians have called for improvement of Russian laws and international legal norms in the field of migration policy to stop any forms of terrorism and international crime.

"A reliable barrier needs to be placed on the national borders to prevent penetration of Russia by extremists," the Federation Council and the State Duma said in the decision of their joint meeting on Friday.

The parliamentarians called for promotion of international cooperation and information exchange for the prevention of terror attacks, the prosecution of terrorists and joint measures against terrorists' aiders and abettors. "Arms supply to terrorist groups and purchase of resources and cultural valuables from them are forms of abetting in their crimes which must be punished no less resolutely than the actions of terrorists themselves," the decision said.

The parliamentarians deem it necessary to develop broad international cooperation with all states without exception, as well as organizations and entities expressing their readiness for such collaboration, and to render maximum support to the Russian president with the legislative capacities of the Russian Federal Assembly and parliamentary diplomacy tools.

"To initiate relative decisions at international parliamentary organizations, to assist in the formation of efficient international institutions for the prevention and termination of the activity of international terrorist structures with the unquestionably central role of the United Nations Organization and its global anti-terrorism strategy in this process," the document said.
