Presidents of Kazakhstan, Afghanistan discuss joint actions by law enforcement agencies in fight against terrorism
ASTANA. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani discussed security issues in Central Asia at the negotiations in Astana.
"The second issue we discussed was what is now happening inside of Afghanistan, the threat to the Central Asian republics, what we can do, how the law enforcement agencies can work together to counter terrorism," Nazarbayev said after the negotiations.
He said regional security will also be discussed during upcoming interdepartmental meetings.
The negotiations also addressed drug trafficking issues, Nazarbayev said. "We discussed that issue, we decided what we will do. We are also working a lot on this issue, and we are hoping you will support us. I think cooperation between our two countries will continue [in this sphere]," Nazarbayev said.
The president of Afghanistan, for his part, reiterated that security in the region can only be ensured by common efforts taken by states.
"Terrorism does not recognize culture, borders, it's a common danger. Consequently, we should and will fight terrorism together so that our great religion and our great culture no longer suffer from it [
