Kudrin prefers to formulate ideas that could be used by new parties in future
MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax) - Committee of Civil Initiatives Chairman and former Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin says he sees his role in Russia's political affairs in formulating positions that could become platforms for political parties in the future.
"I am not prepared to create anything on my own, I am engaged in civil society now. I think this could be a basis and a foundation in the future, including for structuring platforms and positions that would ultimately be presented by parties," Kudrin said at a civil forum on Saturday, when asked whether he could possibly set up a political party.
Kudrin said he supported efforts by people willing to be engaged in politics and establish their own parties.
"I think the incumbent authorities restrict political movements. This makes the chances for certain forces to be represented at the parliament smaller. There should be a political life, and I hope political activities will be more open in the future," he said.
"I see my role in working out substantive forms, which parties could then make use of," he said.
