Syrian coalition of opposition forces decides to participate in meeting in Riyadh
MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax) - The National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces will participate in a meeting of the Syrian opposition in Saudi Arabia slated for mid-December, member of the coalition's political bureau Badr Jamous said.
"Certainly, we will obligatorily do so [participate in the meeting], but a date has not been set so far. The Saudis have not sent an invitation so far, but we will participate in this meeting and will try to unite an opposition, with which we were working on a common stance for the resolution of the Syrian crisis," Jamous told Interfax.
He also said that "a meeting in Riyadh is among the main agreements reached in Vienna, where Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey participated in it [in the meeting]," the coalition's representative said.
Jamous said that a meeting of the Syrian opposition was to take place before December 15.
UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said earlier that a meeting would be held in Saudi Arabia on December 15 that would seek to unite the Syrian moderate opposition in a common front for any talks with the current regime on an interim body of government.
