Naryshkin calls for condemnation of unilateral sanctions policy
MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax) - There should be no artificial obstacles on the way to the joint fight against international terrorism, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin has said.
"In addition to solidarity declarations, it is important now that the world's future is at stake to overcome the existent disagreements and to prevent the appearance of new ones. There should be no artificial obstacles on the way to the joint fight against international terrorism," Naryshkin wrote in an article published by Rossiyskaya Gazeta on Tuesday.
Comments are being made in the West with ever increasing frequency suggesting another extension of the illegal sanctions against Russia although the ongoing sanctions are far from being expired, the State Duma speaker observed.
In the words of Naryshkin, this ideological 'artillery preparation' "continues despite the developing dialogue between the leaders of France and Russia, direct allied contacts between servicemen of our two countries, and plans to interact in fighting ISIL terrorists."
"Of course, we realize that these sanctions are not an end in itself; this is a method of resolving other tasks which are not declared in public. Hence, it is important right now, 'coming hot on the heels', to document these true rather than fictitious goals. The entire international community should look into this. At least to condemn the policy of unilateral sanctions unapproved by the UN Security Council," Naryshkin said.
This is necessary "in the first turn for preventing future restrictions in evasion of this body and for not allowing impediments to free market and enterprise accommodating somebody's unilateral interests and advantage and, secondly, for stopping the practice of backstage (if not downright secret) preparation of agreements with countries that are already affiliated to other integration unions," he said.
"This should be recognized as a form of unfair competition and stopped at the level of both the WTO and the UN. I think that this - international legal liability - is the only way to protect the world from doubtful integration initiatives pushed by the countries which are trying to improve their debt situation by doing so," the State Duma speaker said.
"The conclusion of new interregional agreements is a sovereign and voluntary act but we have made sure that the very fact of behind-the-scene negotiations can provoke internal civil conflicts and create threats to international security," he said.
"In this context, the construction of another space, from Lisbon to Vladivostok, becomes an even more pressing task. In contrast to the United States, we openly made that proposition at the very start. I understand that many now see it as a fantasy although this common space has largely become a reality in the legal and humanitarian respects," Naryshkin said.
