Control over Turkish products to be rigorous - food watchdog
MOSCOW. Nov 26 (Interfax) - Control over agricultural products coming from Turkey will be rigorous, Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) Nikolai Vlasov told Interfax.
"We are introducing tough measures, this means stepping up inspection of cargo and strengthening laboratory control," he said, noting that under the traditional control scheme, there is only selective laboratory control.
"If a country allows itself to engage in hostile behavior with regard to Russia, we can not be sure that this behavior will not be extended to consignments of food, and the strengthening of control is due to this," Vlasov, said.
He also said that in the coming days a procedure of approval for terms of inspections of Turkish companies eligible to export their products to Russia will begin. The tentative schedule is being made.
Strengthening control will not lead to an increase in the number of inspectors. "We will get by with what we have now, it is enough," he said, adding that there are not a lot of animal products coming from Turkey to Russia, and plant products mainly come through the Krasnodar territory.
