Presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia may hold talks before yearend, Baku confirms
BAKU. Nov 27 (Interfax) - Another meeting between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Ilham Aliev and Serzh Sargsyan, may possibly be held before yearend, Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said.
"Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk group discussed the idea of holding the meeting during their latest visit to the region. We expressed our consent. Perhaps, the meeting will be held before the end of this year, the co-chairs are working on it," Mammadyarov told a joint press conference that he attended together with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Baku on Friday.
The Azeri foreign minister revealed that he advised his Turkish counterpart on the current developments in the Karabakh settlement. Mammadyarov said that steps forwards are needed in the resolution of the conflict, recalling the recent visits of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Baku and Yerevan.
"Everybody accepts that the presence of Armenian troops in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan constitutes a problem for the entire region," he said.
Republican Party of Armenia (the ruling party) Spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov earlier told reporters that the meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan would possibly be held early in December.
Armenian 'Graparak' newspaper reported on November 24 that the meeting between Sargsyan and Aliev would be held in Paris on December 1. The media also says that no new proposals are to be discussed at the Paris meeting as "the parties will continue to discuss measures aimed to preserve the truce regime and resume the negotiation process".
