Muscovite suspected of embezzling over 270 mln rubles in Vostochny project seized in Blagoveshchensk airport
MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The Amur region police have detained a Muscovite suspected of embezzling about 273 million rubles in the construction of the Vostochny spaceport, the Russian Interior Ministry press service said on Sunday.
"A 47-year-old resident of Moscow has been detained in Blagoveshchensk airport; he is suspected of committing a crime under Part 4 Article 160 of the Russian Criminal Code - large-scale embezzlement or theft of other's property entrusted to the suspect," the report said.
According to the Interior Ministry, "in July 2013, a federal state unitary enterprise signed two contracts with a limited liability company for building a construction and solid household waste treatment plant and residential areas with relevant infrastructures, social and cultural facilities and doing the landscaping in the Vostochny spaceport."
"According to the investigators, the apprehended founder of the limited liability company, who was also its actual head, spent the money transferred under those contracts in a total amount of about 273 million rubles on purposes unrelated to the construction of the facilities in the Vostochny spaceport," the report said.
The suspect has been placed in a detention facility; the criminal inquiry goes on, the press service said.
