Two-thirds of Russians see their country as great power - poll
MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - The percentage of Russians who see their home country as a great power has grown a lot since 2011, from 47% to 65%, Levada Center told Interfax.
The opposite opinion is expressed by 25%, as against 46% in 2011. Ten percent of 1,600 respondents polled in 134 populated localities in 46 regions on November 20-23 are undecided.
Russians attribute prosperity (64%), economic and industrial potential (58%), military might and possession of nuclear missiles (51%), great culture, science and art (25%), respect of other countries and international authority (20%) to the great power notion.
Thirty-six percent of the respondents said they would like Russia "to be like developed Western nations" in the future.
Three percent want Russia to be want it was in the Soviet era, and another three percent favor the way it was before 1917. Fourteen percent are sufficed with the present-day Russia, and another 14 percent are undecided.
On the whole, Russians want their country to be strong and prosperous (57% in each category), rich (52%), educated and cultured (40%), invincible (35%), peaceful (31%) and just (30%).
