Russian-Cypriot interparliamentary relations help strengthen cooperation in various spheres - Lavrov
NICOSIA. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Russia believes the development of interparliamentary relations with the Republic of Cyprus is important, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a meeting with Cypriot Parliament Speaker Yiannakis Omirou on Wednesday.
The Russian minister thanked him for his contribution to the development of interaction between the two countries. Lavrov said interparliamentary relations between Russia and Cyprus help strengthen cooperation in various spheres.
"Our relations with Cyprus are very close. They are aimed at their development," the minister said.
Lavrov also addressed the issue of Cyprus settlement. He emphasized that a decision should be made on the basis of the provisions of the UN Security Council's resolution and an agreement reached by the parties.
Lavrov said he is convinced that the UN Security Council will follow the situation and will play its role in finalizing the settlement.
Omirou, for his part, said Cyprus considers Russia a true friend.
"Our relations are very strong and they are tested by time. We are very happy to welcome you and your delegation to Nicosia," he said.
