Putin, Nazarbayev discuss creation of broad anti-ISIL coalition - Kremlin

MOSCOW. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev spoke by telephone at the latter's request to discuss the fight against the terrorist group Islamic State and the entry into force of the European Union-Ukraine association agreement, the Kremlin press office said.

"The discussion focused on a number of pressing international and regional problems, including issues relating to the creation of a broad coalition to fight terrorist and extremist groups, primarily ISIL. In the context of preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council due on December 21 this year, they touched, in particular, upon the subject of the commencement of the economic part of the EU-Ukraine association agreement," the press office said.

For its part, the Kazakh president's press office said that the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine, expressing hope for a swift and entirely peaceful resolution of the crisis.

"During their conversation the heads of state discussed aspects of the bilateral cooperation, as well as a number of pressing international and regional issues, including the creation of a joint global network against international terrorism and extremism," the press office said.

Nazarbayev and Putin discussed preparations for upcoming meetings in Moscow of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
