U.S.-Russia foundation declared unwelcome
MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - The Russian Justice Ministry has extended its list of unwelcome foreign and international nongovernmental organizations by including the U.S. Russia Foundation for Economic Advancement and the Rule of Law (USRF), a ministry spokesperson told Interfax on Monday.
"On December 7, the Russian Justice Ministry added the U.S. Russia Foundation for Economic Advancement and the Rule of Law to the list of foreign and international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) whose activities are unwanted in the Russian Federation," the spokesperson said.
It was reported earlier that the Russian Prosecutor General's Office declared this foundation unwelcome because of its chief's U.S. citizenship and the foundation's support for Russian NGOs classified as foreign agents and involved in Russian political processes.
"The activity by this organization (USRF) poses a threat to the foundations of Russia's constitutional system and national security," the Prosecutor General's Office also said.
