Kanopus-ST defense satellite debris sinks in South Atlantic, Volga unit still in orbit - source
MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The Kanopus-ST satellite of the Russian Defense Ministry has entered dense layers of the atmosphere above the South Atlantic Ocean with its debris sinking in the waters, a rocket and space industry representative told Interfax-AVN, quoting updated reports.
"The satellite hit dense layers of the atmosphere at 35 degrees south, one degree west," he said on Tuesday.
The industry representative confirmed that the Volga booster, which, according to certain media outlets, failed to separate from Kanopus and also burned up in the atmosphere, was still in orbit with an inclination of 98.2 degrees, an apogee of 680 kilometers and a perigee of 208 kilometers.
"In the opinion of specialists, this proves that the booster will linger in orbit for another few months," he said.
