Kyrgyz, Turkmen leaders discuss bilateral cooperation

BISHKEK. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow discussed the development of Kyrgyz-Turkmen cooperation in various fields at a meeting in Ashgabat, the Kyrgyz presidential press service told Interfax on Saturday.

The Kyrgyz leader thanked his Turkmen counterpart for an invitation to visit Ashgabat and take part in an international conference on 'Neutrality policy: International cooperation for peace, security and development', which opened on Saturday.

"Turkmenistan is the first country whose neutrality was consolidated by the UN. The past 20 years have shown that Turkmenistan has made the right choice: it is developing successfully and, owing to its economic development, can also provide support to the neighboring countries," Atambayev said.

Berdimuhamedow acknowledged that Turkmen-Kyrgyz relations are developing consistently.

"I am glad to see you at this conference. We do value your political vision on the international arena, and we are delighted to see that you always support our initiatives. We will have a good opportunity to discuss aspects of cooperation both on the regional and on the global level at this international conference," Berdimuhamedow said addressing Atambaev.

"We still have to do a lot to deepen our bilateral cooperation," he said.
