Lavrov to depart for New York on Thursday for meeting on Syria

MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will depart for New York on Thursday afternoon for a meeting on Syria and events held under the UN aegis, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said.

"Sergei Lavrov will fly to New York tomorrow afternoon for attending a meeting of the International Syria Support Group and other events held on the platform of the United Nations Organization and dedicated to the Syria settlement," she said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Lavrov noted the significance of the New York meeting at a press conference on Tuesday, following a meeting between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zakharova said.
