More than 1,300 tonnes of sanctioned food products destroyed since August 6 - food watchdog

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - More than 1,352 tonnes of sanctioned food was destroyed in Russia from between August 6 and December 20 this year, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) told Interfax.

Some 1,237 tonnes of plant products were destroyed while 115 tonnes of animal products were destroyed.

Since August 6 more than 2,200 tonnes of contraband food was seized, including 2,100 tonnes of plant products, and 177.5 tonnes of plants

Additionally, in the framework of phytosanitary control for the period, the authorities from supplier countries sent more than 12,500 phytosanitary certificates, and in some of which their authenticity raised doubts, and 75 of them were found to be counterfeit.

Some 222 Veterinary certificates were sent to the special services of supplier countries for confirmation, of which one was recognized as counterfeit, another four are being checked, and 217 were confirmed.
