Russia-EU summits may be resumed starting from March 2016 - Brok
MOSCOW. Dec 22 (Interfax) - The possibility of resuming Russia-European Union summits exists, and this may happen starting from the end of March 2016 if the Minsk peace agreements for Ukraine are implemented, European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Elmar Brok said in an interview with Interfax.
When asked about the possibility of reviving this format of talks between the EU and Russia, Brok said that, in his opinion, the Russia-EU summit format could be resumed if the Minsk accords are implemented.
"If Minsk is implemented, we can talk about negotiating a new partnership agreement and other staff, because it is our joint economic and political interest," he said.
At the same time, Brok said that contacts between the EU and Russia continue.
"The communications are there. Foreign ministers of members of the European Union and Mr. Lavrov and also Ms. Mogherini meet at the moment on the weekly basis. Our strategy is always readiness if the conditions are there which means that Russia respects again international law in the connection with Ukraine," he said.
