DPRK says destruction of Korean Wall is condition for reunification
MOSCOW. Dec 22 (Interfax) - Pyongyang, ahead of the 36th anniversary of building the Korean Wall that separates the north and the south of the peninsula, has called the destruction of the wall a condition for Korean reunification.
"The liquidation of the concrete barrier will link the separated lands of the North and the South and will be crucial for the acceleration of reunification and prosperity of the country and will open brilliant prospects for the further expansion of economic cooperation in Northeast Asia," reads a statement by the North Korean embassy to Moscow obtained by Interfax on Tuesday.
It is also important to sign a peace treaty between the DPRK and the United States that is to replace the 1953 Armistice Agreement as it will assist the rapprochement of the north and the south of the Korean peninsula and will "enable the solving of all other problems," the embassy said.
"If a peace treaty is signed and there is no military demarcation line and no wall, then the demilitarized zone will turn into a zone of peace, thus enabling favorable prospects for movements and exchanges between the North and the South, as well as economic cooperation," the statement reads.
Pyongyang also rejected the possibility of using the reunification example of Germany, saying that German-style reunification "is a deadlock that will even further escalate confrontation and may trigger a war."
"We will in no way tolerate attempts at
