Three militants eliminated in Karachayevo-Cherkessia - National Anti-Terrorist Committee

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Law enforcement agencies have neutralized three militants in a special operation conducted in one of the regions of Karachayevo-Cherkessia, the information center of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee reported.

"A group of armed persons was found today in a series of reconnaissance, search and ambush operations conducted in Karachayevo-Cherkessia since December 22, under the guidance of the Operative Headquarters of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee in a destroyed house in an abandoned dacha settlement on the territory of the Adyge-Khabl municipal district. When an attempt was made to detain them, the armed persons opened fire on the law enforcement officials. Three militants were neutralized in a brief fight," the National Anti-Terrorist Committee said in a report obtained by Interfax on Thursday.

Identification procedures are underway, the source said.

"The militants' car, where an improvised explosive device went off, was found on the territory near the clash site, as well as firearms, grenades, and a lot of ammunition. No civilians and law enforcement officials were hurt," the report says.

Earlier on Thursday, an official with the press service for the Russian Federal Security Service's Department for Karachayevo-Cherkessia reported that a counterterrorist operation was being conducted in Karachayevo-Cherkessia.
