Russia produces over 300 helicopters in 2015 - Rostec head

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has reached the Soviet-era level in terms of the number of helicopters it produced in 2015, Rostec corporation chief Sergei Chemezov said.

"As a matter of fact, yes. Because, if you take the Mi-8, or, if we talk about its military version, it's Mi-171, it's the most popular and the most widespread model. You can see it all over the world, from Latin America to Africa," Chemezov said in an interview shown in the Saturday news program hosted by Sergey Brilev on the Rossiya 1 (VGTRK) television channel.

Russia has manufactured more than 300 helicopters in 2015, and Russian engine manufacturers will produce about 200 engines in 2016 to replace Ukrainian ones, he said.

"We have developed our own engine, VK-2500, and we will produce about 30 of them this year, although we need 300. But I think we will have around 200 next year," Chemezov said.
