Poll shows 89% Crimea residents content with life; 82% happy with situation in region

MOSCOW. Dec 29 (Interfax) - The overwhelming majority of Crimeans (89%) say that they live well enough and only 10% express discontent with their living conditions, a poll conducted by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) suggests.

The state of affairs in the region is viewed positively by 82% of its residents, while negative views are shared by only 15% of the participants of the survey conducted among 1,000 residents of Crimea in December 23-26, according to VTsIOM.

Three-thirds of the respondents (75%) agree that a number of positives changes occurred in Crimea over the past year. The opposite view is supported by 4%, while other 16% believe that the situation did not change.

Now electricity supplies in the peninsula are not a matter of concern for Crimeans: 44% say that "the situation is good in general, the problems in this field have been solved in the most part", while other 51% believe that "the situation with the power supply is stable: there are some isolated issues but they do not make a great impact".

Only 4% believe that "the situation is problematic: certain positive changes are present but the measures undertaken have been not sufficient".

The status of the Republic of Crimea decided on the referendum 18 months ago is still supported by the residents of the peninsula today: if the plebiscite was held next Sunday, 93% would vote in favor of the accession to the Russian federation. Such an option, as subsistence within Ukraine as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was selected by 2%.

The regional leader, Sergei Aksyonov, enjoys an extremely high level of trust among Crimeans (87%) and the almost same high level of his work's appreciation: 85% believe that he has been fulfilling his duties well. Only 8% express their mistrust towards him and only 6% of residents refer negatively to his work.

Crimean Parliament Speaker Vladimir Konstantinov has won trust of 68% of residents, with 64% assessing his work positively. The opposing views are shared by 16% and 9% respectively.

According to 79% of Crimeans, the interaction between the regional authorities and Moscow is constructive enough (8% complained about the conflicting nature of the relations between the regional and federal administrations). However, Crimea residents feel that they are given due care and protection by the republic's leader: 78% are convinced that he is successful in defending the interests of Crimeans in interactions with Russian federal authorities and 11% did not agree.
