Two servicemen from Azerbaijani special operations forces killed in Karabakh conflict zone - Stepanakert

YEREVAN/BAKU. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Servicemen from the unrecognized, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, prevented an incursion of a sabotage-and-reconnaissance group of the Azerbaijani army's special operations forces on Thursday evening, two Azerbaijani soldiers were killed, the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Ministry press service said on Friday.

The incident happened in the eastern sector of the contact line between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijani forces, the ministry said.

"The incursion of a special operations group of the enemy was discovered timely by forward units of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army. At least two Azerbaijani servicemen were killed, and the others retreated as a result of the countermeasures," the ministry said.

The Nagorno-Karabakh side did not suffer casualties in the shootout, the unrecognized republic's ministry added.

In turn, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry refuted reports alleging Azerbaijani army casualties in the Karabakh conflict zone.

"Units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces did not suffer any casualties; they are in control of the operative situation along the contact line," a ministry representative told Interfax.
