No Russians hurt in Burkina Faso terror attacks - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - There are no Russians among the victims of the terror attacks in Burkina Faso, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
"According to the information at the Russian Embassy to Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso, as well as Russia's Honorary Consul in Ouagadougou, there are no Russian citizens among the victims," the ministry said in a commentary.
"Moscow resolutely condemns this criminal act claimed by the extremist group Al-Mourabitoun affiliated with the well-known terrorist organization Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). We express our deep condolences to the relatives and loved ones of those killed and wishes of swift recovery to all those injured," the ministry said.
On January 15 the capital of Burkina Faso, the city of Ougadougou was rocked by a series of coordinated terror attacks - an armed attack at a cafe and an attack on the international Splendid Hotel, including the taking of around 120 of its guests hostage. Over 20 people - mainly foreigners from 18 countries - were killed and around 30 injured. As a result of the rescue operation carried out by Burkina Faso security forces the terrorists were neutralized and the hostages released, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary.
