Solution to Iran nuclear program an example of trustful Russia-U.S. cooperation, deserves to be multiplied - Russian senator
MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - The lifting of sanctions against Iran has become possible largely thanks to cooperation between Russia and the United States, Konstantin Kosachyov, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, has said.
"The solution was found to the Iranian nuclear program that has been accepted by all sides concerns and that has been certified by the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). It is the joint success of all participants in these talks. And it became possible in no small measure thanks to the trustful cooperation between Russia and the U.S.," he told Interfax on Sunday.
"This is a vivid example of the advantages offered by diplomatic negotiations over the tactic of pressure and sanctions, which the Americans have long tried to practice in relation to Tehran. And this is an example that deserves to be multiplied," the Russian senator said.
Russia will support the Iranian nuclear agreement by practical actions stemming from its content, he said. The removal of sanctions is the first step along this path, he added.
"We in the Federation Council thoroughly analyzed all details of this agreement and concluded that it is transparent and is entitled to actual practical implementation," Kosachyov said.
It became known earlier that sanctions linked with the Iranian nuclear program had been lifted against Iran. This was announced in a joint statement made in Vienna by EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
