Yakunin setting up int'l expert center to tackle global issues

MOSCOW. Jan 19 (Interfax) - Ex-chief of Russian Railways (RZD) Vladimir Yakunin intends to set up an international analytical center that will seek solutions to global issues.

"At the present moment, Vladimir Yakunin is paying much attention to the formation of an international think-tank that will be looking for solutions to reduce tensions in the world, and working out concrete proposals for its development without conflicts or unilateral domination," Interfax-Religion was told at the emerging center on Monday.

The source said the new structure will bring together "leading world experts in various fields of science."

"One of the results of the center's operations will be analytical documents and recommendations on reducing contentiousness in the world, the evolution of global trends, the assessment of risks in various regions and countries," he said.

A council of trustees of the center is now in the making, representatives of international business, political and the expert communities have been invited to join it.

Yakunin heads the council of trustees of the Endowment for St. Andrew the First-Called, the Center of the National Glory of Russia and the World Public Forum - the Dialogue of Civilizations.

In March 2013, Yakunin founded the Istoki endowment, to support historical and cultural programs, to study and preserve Russian national legacy, to promote the peaceful coexistence of peoples and religions. As of January 2014, the endowment had received about 500 million rubles in donations, making into one of his biggest Russian endowments.
