Putin urges raising threshold for massive damage caused to companies

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Russian president Vladimir Putin has agreed that the threshold for losses caused to legal entities, which is classified as "large" and "very large" by the Criminal Code, should be raised.

"Of course, we should differentiate [the threshold for damage caused to companies and individuals]. If we talk about a very large sum, not 250,000, of course, it can, of course, be increased fivefold," Putin told a Support of Russia forum on Wednesday.

At the same time, he said he was not ready yet to answer whether the Criminal Code article concerning illegal entrepreneurship should be removed from the Code.

"Whereas our constitution proclaims the freedom of entrepreneurial activities, the criminal law says about illegal entrepreneurship. The law does not say that all entrepreneurship is illegal. Let us look into it, I have no answer to this question yet," Putin said in response to the forum attendees' proposal to decriminalize illegal entrepreneurship.
