DPR says its territory shelled 17 times by Ukrainian military in past 24 hrs

DONETSK. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Ukraine's military have shelled frontline territories of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) 17 times during the past 24 hours, the Donetsk news agency said in a report citing the DPR Defense Ministry.

"Ukrainian forces shelled the territory of the Republic 17 times. The situation at the contact line has been largely escalated over the past 24 hours," the report says.

The villages of Zhabunki, Spartak, the territory of the airport in the northern outskirts of Donetsk, as well as the settlements of Lozove, Sakhanka, Kominternive and Leninske in southern Donbas and the part of the town of Zaitseve controlled by DPR located to the north of Horlivka, all came under enemy fire.

"In total, more than 150 82mm and 120mm mortar shells were fired on the territory of the Republic. More than 170 shots were fired with anti-tank hand-held grenade launchers, automatic mounted grenade launchers, an anti-aircraft system and small arms. It was 150 times that automatic mounted grenade launchers hit the outskirts of the airport and Sakhanka was hit by seven mortar shells," it says.
