Rosselkhoznadzor bans import of 12 tonnes of thrips-infested pepper from Israel

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Rosselkhoznadzor employees seized 12 tonnes of fresh pepper from Israel at the port of Novorossiysk, which were infected with quarantined pests, the Western Californian (flower) thrips, the service said in a statement.

The presence of pests was confirmed at the Krasnodar interregional veterinary laboratory. The import of the cargo into Russia was banned.

According to the statement, since the start of 2016 this is already the third discovery of quarantined objects in products under quarantine coming from Israel. Its total weight amounted to more than 24 tonnes.
