Lavrov: There is info that ISIL uses Georgia's Pankisi Gorge as training base
MOSCOW Jan 26 (Interfax) - The Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia uses the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia as a training base for militants, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Now we receive reports that ISIL uses this difficult-to-reach territory so that its militants train, relax and replenish their inventories there," Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow.
Russia had to introduce and toughen visa requirements "mainly because the terror threat has not vanished from the Pankisi Gorge," the foreign minister said.
