Turkey's ground operation in Syria, Iraq would be wrong decision - Russian envoy to EU
BRUSSELS. Jan 27 (Interfax) - If Turkey possibly decided to launch a ground operation in Iraq and in Syria, this could cause damage to the situation in the region, says Russian Permanent Representative in the EU Vladimir Chizhov.
"There have been statements from Ankara on the possible start of a ground operation in Iraq and in Syria. This would damage the general regional situation, and would lead to further significant escalation. I hope these statements won't be materialized," Chizhov said, while taking questions at a conference on Russia's role in the Middle East in Brussels on Wednesday.
