Russian FSB officers seize 30 kilos of heroin from Kyrgyz citizens in Chelyabinsk region
CHELYABINSK. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Officers from the Russian Federal Security Service's (FSB) branch for the Chelyabinsk region have confiscated 30 kilograms of heroin from Kyrgyz drug dealers in the city of Yuzhnouralsk, the FSB branch's press service reported on Thursday.
Two citizens from Kyrgyzstan, a 50-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, rented an apartment in Yuzhnouralsk in order to store drugs there, it said.
Another Kyrgyz man, who also holds Swedish citizenship, was supposed to smuggle heroin to different Russian regions, but was detained by FSB officers on a motorway between Chelyabinsk and Troitsk, it said.
"In his car, counter-intelligence officers found some five kilograms of the narcotic substance, ready to be sold in regions of central Russia. The remaining heroin was seized from the rented apartment," the press service said.
Investigators from the FSB's local branch have opened criminal cases against the three suspected drug dealers on a count of 'large-scale illegal sale of narcotic substances by an organized group'.
They face up to a life sentence if found guilty, the press service said.
