U.S. made no decision over possible sanctions against Russia over Litvinenko case - ambassador to Russia
MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The United States Ambassador to Russia, John Tefft, doubts that his country will continue discussing the idea of introducing sanctions against Russia after publication of the Litvinenko inquiry report in the United Kingdom.
"[Whitehouse spokesman] Josh Earnest said that we have made no decision at this point. I'm not aware that there has been any further discussion of that," the ambassador said in an interview with three Russian news agencies, responding to a question posed by Interfax.
According to the report, which was published by British investigator Robert Owen in London on January 21, former FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko was killed by businessman Dmitry Kovtun and current Duma deputy Andrei Lugovoy who had met with Litvinenko three weeks before he died. The document also suggests that that the operation to eliminate Litvinenko may have been conducted with the approval of the Russian leadership.
