Electricity consumption in Russia up 2.2% to 102.3 bln kWh in January

MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Electricity consumption in Russia rose 2.2% year-on-year in January 2016 to 102.3 billion kilowatt-hours, OJSC System Operator said in a statement.

Consumption in Russia's Unified Energy System (UES) was up 2.3% to 99.4 billion kWh.

Electricity output in Russia as a whole increased 2.5% in the month year-on-year to 104.2 billion kWh. It was 101.6 billion kWh in the UES, up 2.3%.

Thermal power plants supplied most of the unified system's electricity, producing 65.4 billion kWh in January, up 1.9% year-on-year. Hydropower plants generated 12.8 billion kWh, up 12.8%, nuclear plants - 17.9 billion kWh, down 3.7%, and captive power plants - 5.5 billion kWh, up 5.8%.

Peak capacity use in January 2016 was 149.246 GW, or 1.3% above the peak for January 2015.
